The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame honored two outstanding insurance industry leaders, legends, and innovators at the 24th annual induction ceremony on held August 7, 2018 in Lansing.

CAROL A. BREED – Carol is the former director of The Risk Management and Insurance Center and holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Olivet College. She was also the advisor of the award winning Alpha Alpha Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, the International Risk Management and Insurance Fraternity.

Carol has over 45 years of experience in the field of insurance. She currently serves as Educational Consultant for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. She is also a faculty member for The Michigan Association of Insurance Agents and The National Alliance for Insurance Education.

Carol earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Insurance at Olivet College and a Juris Doctor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She earned a number of designations, including Certified Insurance Counselor, Certified Risk Manager, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Accredited Advisor in Insurance, and Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance. She is a member of the State of Michigan Bar Association and is licensed to practice law in both Federal and State courts.

Carol’s greatest accomplishment is her work to enhance the risk management and insurance careers of the professionals who will carry on the legacy of the dynamic insurance business.

Jim Robinson - Jim Robinson joined Farm Bureau Insurance in 1975 and became chief executive officer in 2004. As CEO, he led the entire Farm Bureau Insurance operation in Michigan which includes Farm Bureau Mutual, Farm Bureau General, and Farm Bureau Life.

During his distinguished 43-year career, Jim passionately advocated for the insurance industry and on behalf of community organizations throughout Michigan. He is past chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Michigan and the Insurance Institute of Michigan and a former Advisory Committee member for the American Agricultural Insurance Company.  In the community, Jim was chairman of the Mid-Michigan Business Travel Coalition Board, served on the board of directors for Ele’s Place Lansing, the Sparrow Foundation, the Roy Westran Scholarship Foundation and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership. He also served on the Wharton Center Advisory Board and the Greater Lansing Insurance and Financial Services Council.

Jim earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and holds several professional designations, including Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU); Fellow, Life Management Institute; (FLMI) and LIMRA Leadership Institute Fellow (LLIF).

Jim and his wife, Suzanne, have three children and three grandchildren.

The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame was established at Olivet College in 1994 as a way to pay tribute to individuals who have made a significant impact on the ability of the Michigan insurance and risk management industry to serve the public.  An election panel, representing a cross-section of the insurance and risk management business, identifies leaders and/or innovators who have made significant contributions in five areas:  product/service development, education, recruiting new participants, legislative and regulatory activity, and exemplary service.
